Frequently Asked Questions
Most people have questions when they first come to yoga or a new studio. We want you to feel comfortable with your whole experience at Yoga Method, beginning when you plan your first trip to the studio. At Yoga Method we embrace all levels of students. All new students can register for 30 days of unlimited classes for just $30, allowing you to try as many different classes and teachers as you can to find the best fit for you and your schedule.
If your question isn’t answered here, we invite you visit us at the studio, or contact us via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at 508-917-5350. There truly is no such thing as a silly yoga question, so ask away!
What type of yoga do you teach at Yoga Method?
We teach a variety of styles at Yoga Method and we aim to describe all classes accurately on our website and schedule. The majority of classes are based in the Vinyasa style of yoga.
Vinyasa is an active, heat-producing styles of yoga where the breath links one movement to the next. By definition Vinyasa flow yoga classes focus on the flow of the practice and can lack a focus on form and alignment. On the other hand, alignment-based classes lack flow; however, alignment instruction is necessary to promote both safety, longevity of practice, and it can help students go deeper into poses. At Yoga Method we practice what we call “informed flow,” blending a balance of movement and alignment, safely leading the student through a range of poses, guiding breath and movement safely and with more refinement.
Restorative classes are gentle, slower-paced classes designed for you to go deeper into your body and into a quieter, meditative state.
If you have any questions about whether or not a certain class would be appropriate for you, please contact us!
Can beginners practice at Yoga Method?
One of the great things about yoga is it brings us all to the same common denominator: we all have the same struggles and worries, and though everyone comes packaged in a different body, each of us has a path to travel to make it a more comfortable place to live. People come to Yoga Method with differing levels of experience, but there is room for everyone. We are ALL learning. Even our instructors are just the loudest students!
We stress the non-competitive nature of yoga and invite you to make the practice your own, honoring your body and doing what is best for you, not forcing yourself into a shape that you aren’t ready for. The pose is whatever shape your body is in on a spectrum when moving in alignment. The goal of yoga is not to look a certain way in a pose, but to arrive in your pose a way than strengthens you optimally, from a place of integrity, power and freedom.
Although our instructors are prepared to welcome all levels of students to any class, we recommend that you start with our Slow Flow class before attending another Flow class. We also periodically offer Introduction to Yoga workshops and series for beginning students who want a solid foundation in the breathing, alignment, and basic philosophy of yoga. Please check the schedule regularly or contact the studio to see when these are offered.
How often should I practice?
Ideally, yoga is meant to be a daily practice. That can be overwhelming in modern life, so we recommend you set a goal you can realistically keep. Consistency is the key—it’s far better to attend one class per week than overdo it with multiple classes one week and skipping the next three weeks. The more you practice, the better you will feel, and the more you will want to practice! We offer package pricing options that reduce the cost of classes and help you maintain a consistent practice.
Is yoga a workout? Will I lose weight?
The answer depends on the style of yoga you select, as well as the frequency and intensity with which you practice. Although the focus in yoga is about balance, mindfulness, and reconnecting, a regular practice of Vinyasa will not only open your mind and offer you a fresh perspective, but it also will absolutely build strength and change your body. You will create long lean muscles and cultivate flexibility and greater range of motion in the joints. Another benefit of yoga is that as you move into a more mindful, improved state of well-being, you will make choices off the mat that also improve your health.
Is the room heated?
The majority of Yoga Method’s classes are taught at room temperature, but we also offer mild heat classes and hot flow classes. Slow Flow, Gentle, Beginners and Restorative classes are always at a “normal” room temp of about 72 degrees.
The level of heat is noted on the class schedule, but you are also welcome to contact us with questions.
Do you play music?
Yes! We carefully craft our playlists to enhance to flow of each class sequence. Instructors bring their own personality in their music choices, but we aim to provide an soothing environment where the music enhances and doesn’t distract from the practice.
Do I need to bring anything?
Although we have yoga mats to loan, you need to have your own mat if you are going to practice yoga. It’s more hygienic, and more importantly, having your own mat will make it much more likely you will unroll it at home! If you are attending a Vinyasa class, you may want to bring a hand towel and water. We ask that you please leave your cell phone in the reception area. We have a restroom where you can change, but no showers at this time.
When should I eat, and do I need water?
Plan to practice on an empty stomach. If you need a snack, eat a piece of fruit or something light before class. Hydrate well both before and after class. As you don’t want to extinguish all the internal heat building during class, if you need to drink while practicing, take small sips. Drink up when you’re done!
Do I need to sign up in advance?
If you’d like to attend a workshop or special event, we require you to register in advance to ensure adequate space. Those events are clearly noted on the schedule.
We have a small number of weekly classes (currently just 4) that require pre-registration, and they are limited to early morning classes (due to the fact that our instructors need to rise extra early to travel to the studio.) These are clearly marked on the schedule with the text “register by 9pm the night before.” As our early morning class numbers build this step will not be necessary, but in the meantime it will be in effect and is clearly noted on the schedule. If one of these classes is cancelled if no reservations have been made by 9pm the night before, it will be marked as “cancelled” on the schedule. We will NEVER cancel one of these early classes for attendance reasons if even just one student is registered, so you will never receive the dreaded class cancellation email.
For all other regular weekly classes, though you don’t have to make a reservation, we do encourage you to hold your spot by registering and booking through MINDBODY. You can fill in the registration information, sign our waiver and pay securely ahead of time. This helps our instructors start class on time and allows them to welcome and spend time with students rather than a computer. Logging in and booking via MINDBODY also allows you to keep track of class pack usage and know when you need to re-purchase.
If you are new to the studio please arrive about 15-20 minutes before class. This is a great opportunity to meet your instructor, ask any lingering questions and make us aware of any injuries or health concerns you may have.
Do you offer any discounts?
We are pleased to offer a 15% discount on all regular pricing options for students, military and seniors. This applies to all our classes and workshops. To get your discount, please stop by the studio with your valid ID.

OK. So I am ready to take my first class, what should I expect?
Please arrive at the studio about 15-20 minutes before class time. Upon entering, you’ll be greeted at the reception desk and asked to complete a registration form and waiver if you have not signed up online. You can skip this paperwork step by registering for a class ahead of time on our website. You can pay for your class by cash, check or card when you arrive if you have not done so in advance. Arriving early will also give you time to ask the teacher any questions you might have.
We are so excited for you to become a member of the Yoga Method community! Welcome, and Namaste! (P.s. That means “the light in me recognizes and bows to the same light in you.”) See you on the mat!
